Early Statehood

Curator: Meitar Collection
Location: Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya
11.12.2016 - 31.12.2019
Description:

The photographs by Beno Rothenberg, Boris Carmi and Moshe Levine which were brought together for the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya tell the story of the State of Israel and represent important events that are seared into the national consciousness, as well as the difficulties that the young state faced: the struggle to establish a Jewish state; immigration and absorption; multiculturalism; and years of austerity.

The photographs reflect the period when the State of Israel was built up, settled, and its land worked in accordance with democratic and Zionist values as well as the building of Israeli culture and society. The photographs provide another layer of meaning, a layer that touches on the building of identity and connection to place.

The exhibition was produced and is being displayed courtesy of the Meitar Collection.
